Gift Shop Volunteers Give Back
Volunteers at BID Milton Give Back
Throughout Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton history, volunteers have been at the very center of delivering exceptional care to hospital patients and visitors. Volunteers are an integral part of the BID Milton team and help carry out the mission and values of the hospital each day. They understand that in a community hospital setting, it is the friendly faces – and the personalized, compassionate service they provide – that can make all the difference in patient care.
BID Milton Gift Shop Gives Back
On November 21, 2023, BID Milton received a generous donation from the onsite Gift Shop totaling to $30,000. Longtime gift shop manager Ellen Shea and other volunteers proudly presented the donation check to Richard Fernandez, president, BID Milton, and other members of hospital leadership.
For over thirty years the BID Milton Gift Shop has been exclusively run by a team of dedicated volunteers who order inventory, organize the store and provide exceptional service to visitors. Located near the Highland entrance to the hospital on the first floor, hospital visitors may purchase cards, magazines, jewelry, toiletries and seasonal items as well as boutique items like clothing, stuffed animals and assorted handmade gifts. All proceeds from the Gift Shop have been annually donated back to the hospital.
“Our volunteers play a pivotal role in helping us provide the best care to our patients and community. They support us in so many ways throughout the hospital and their positive impact is felt every day. We are grateful for the contributions of our gift shop volunteers for making this donation possible,” said Rich Fernandez, president, BID Milton. “Thank you to all of our volunteers who selflessly give their time to support BID Milton staff, patients and families.”
This year, funds raised in the Gift Shop will be used to purchase new recliner chairs for patient use. These are a welcome addition to the Emergency Department, Inpatient Units and other departments throughout the hospital. While enhancing patient comfort during various medical treatments and procedures, they also assist healthcare professionals in functionality and efficiency, allowing clinicians to meet patient’s needs and further demonstrating our commitment to providing a comfortable care setting.
Each year, the funds earned and donated from the BID Milton Gift Shop make an immediate impact on the hospital and is felt by both patients and staff. Thanks to the incredibly dedicated team of volunteers who run the gift shop and help BID Milton staff each and every day, this gift will be no different.
