Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton Celebrates Construction Milestone

February 09, 2026

Modules Delivered to Support Expanded Emergency Department

Milton, MA — As part of its Emergency Department expansion, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (BID Milton) has finished installing 20 prefabricated modules that will serve as a critical part of the project. Hospital leaders, community members, local officials and supporters celebrated the milestone at a ceremony on February 4.

The expansion project nearly doubles the number of beds in the Emergency Department, providing additional capacity to meet the needs of the region. The recently delivered prefabricated modules are connected to form a single level 8,100 square foot modular addition to the hospital.

“We are excited to reach this milestone in our Emergency Department expansion project, which is going to allow us to provide more care here in the community,” said Rich Fernandez, president, BID Milton. “We look forward to opening the expanded space later this year.”

The hospital’s Emergency Department was originally built to serve 26,000 patients a year and currently serves about 42,000 patients a year.

“The expanded department will provide increased beds for our growing community and increased demand,” said Dan Nadworny, DNP, RN, director of emergency and critical care, BID Milton. “We are looking forward to the completion of this project that will enable us to continue providing world-class care right here in our backyard.”

In the future, the expansion will add additional observation spaces. Observation spaces, which are intended to evaluate, treat and monitor patients who require shorter stays in the hospital, will make available more beds within BID Milton for patients who need a more critical level of care. The overall project will provide modernized space and technology, creating a more welcoming space for both patients and staff.

Philanthropic support from the community has been instrumental in transforming BID Milton’s care environments through the Everyday Exceptional campaign. Thanks to generous donor support, the expanded Emergency Department is becoming a reality, and fundraising continues as the hospital moves closer to its campaign goal.

Beth Israel Lahey Health has a goal to deliver 70 percent of the care the system provides in the community over 10 years. The expanded Emergency Department will open later in 2026.
