Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton Opens New Diagnostic Neurology Suite
The Testing Suite Will Help Diagnose Epilepsy, Dementia, and Other Disorders
Milton, MA – As part of its three-year capital upgrade plan, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton has opened a new diagnostic neurology suite to perform tests including EEGs, EMGs, MRIs, and lumbar punctures. The new suite combines the delivery of these services all into one area of the hospital, with a dedicated waiting room. In addition, the suite includes four soundproof exam rooms for patients' comfort during their tests.
The new suite will be named after John Mahoney, MD, a long-time and well-respected BID Milton neurologist who passed away in 2020. A generous, multi-year donation has been committed by the John F.X. Mahoney MD Foundation, made up of his family, friends, and colleagues, to support the project. The Foundation endeavors to advance education in neurology, and fuel breakthrough research for neurological conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease.
“Our patients and community, deserve to be treated in an environment that reflects the superior care we provide, and our new diagnostic suite achieves that,” said Rich Fernandez, president, BID Milton. “We know that coming to the hospital for tests can be a stressful experience, and we are pleased that our new testing suite will lessen the anxiety that patients feel. We are grateful to the John F.X. Mahoney MD Foundation for their help making this possible.”
The neurology diagnostic suite will be staffed with six board-certified doctors and three radiology technicians.
“This new diagnostic suite makes testing more comfortable for both our patients and our clinicians,” said Daniel Siao, MD, chief medical officer, BID Milton. “Our state-of-the-art equipment is now all in one place so testing can be performed seamlessly. We are happy to be able to provide our patients with top-notch care in this new suite.”
