Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton recently awarded seven area organizations community health grants totaling $9,500 to help support programs that address the hospital’s community health priorities.

The community health priorities were identified based upon an extensive Community Health Needs Assessment undertaken by the hospital in 2013. The assessment included a review of public health data and focused interviews with healthcare and social service providers in the region.  The main priorities identified, and which guide the hospital’s community health programming, are: access to care, particularly for seniors;  chronic disease prevention and education; substance abuse prevention; mental health treatment and support; nutrition education and transportation services for healthcare appointments.

Agencies receiving the grants were:

  • Joanna’s Place, Hingham
  • Girl Power, Milton
  • Milton High School, Milton
  • Point Webster Middle School, Quincy
  • Quincy Public Schools, Quincy
  • Randolph Senior Center, Randolph
  • South Shore YMCA, Quincy

“Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton is committed to improving the health of its communities, and this grant program is an important aspect of that ongoing effort,” said Peter Healy, president and CEO of the hospital. “The programs that received these grants are making a meaningful impact and helping to address the community’s health needs.”

During the last six years the hospital has awarded an estimated $50,000 to 30 community organizations through its Community Health Grants Program.
