Funds will support underserved organizations in Milton, Quincy, and Randolph

Milton, Mass. – Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (BID Milton) today announced $75,000 in grant funding to five community-based organizations in Milton, Randolph and Quincy over the next three years.

“We are a community hospital in every sense of the word, and it is incumbent upon us to support the communities we serve both in Milton and in the surrounding areas,” said Rich Fernandez, president of BID Milton. “Our hope is that these funds will address critical health priorities leading to better health outcomes.”

The grants are part of BID Milton’s Community Benefits Program and fund evidence-based or evidence-informed programs that address community health priorities, including Chronic Disease Management and Prevention, Social Determinants of Health, Healthy Aging and Behavioral Health.

The following five organizations were selected to receive grants valued at $5,000 a year for three years:

• Quincy Asian Resources (QARI) - Getting the Teens Out (Quincy)

  The mission of the QARI Youth ServiceCorps (YSC) is to equip, support, and empower youth to become leaders with opportunities to develop their skills so they can serve and invest in their communities. This grant will help fund a series of social groups for bicultural, low-income, immigrant teens and their caregivers led by a youth development specialist and mental health specialist from Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs to relieve emotional stress from social isolation and facilitate connections to further mental health resources.

• Simon C. Fireman Community - Nutritional Support for Seniors in Affordable Housing (Randolph)

  The Simon C. Fireman Community offers seniors affordable, independent living that supports personal wellness. The grant will help fund a part-time nutritionist to provide one-on-one and group nutritional support classes for seniors in affordable housing and the greater community.

• DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) - Emergency Flex Funding for Domestic Violence Survivors (Quincy)

  DOVE is committed to partnering with diverse communities, families and individuals impacted by domestic violence or partner violence by promoting hope, healing, safety, and social change by providing a broad range of preventive and responsive services. The grant will be used to provide emergency financial assistance or "flex funds" to domestic violence survivors, helping to address immediate concerns for well-being including housing security and access to healthy food. For example, funds may cover rental assistance and landlord negotiation.

• Milton Early Childhood Alliance - Learning Through Play Preschool Playgroup Series (Milton)

  The Milton Early Childhood Alliance, a program of Discovery Schoolhouse and mainly funded through the MA Department of Early Education and Care, is a community-wide organization that provides families and children access to locally available comprehensive services and supports that strengthen families, promote optimal child development, and bolster school readiness. This Grant will fund an 8-week developmentally appropriate preschool playgroup series for 20-25 children with a focus on supporting and enhancing gross and fine motor skills and development. The series is aimed at providing quality early learning experience for children whose opportunity for an education preschool experience was interrupted by the COVD-19 pandemic.

• Milton Public Schools - Trauma Sensitive Schools (Milton)

  The Milton Public Schools serves approximately 4,400 students in four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. In addition, Milton offers a developmental preschool, before and after school programs and summer school programs. Grant funding will be used to implement curriculum and training on trauma and its effects on students to all staff at Milton's six public schools to improve social and emotional learning and resiliency.
