About Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (BID Milton) is a member of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a health care system that brings together academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, community and specialty hospitals. More than 4,700 physicians and 39,000 employees share in a mission to expand access to great care and advance the science and practice of medicine through groundbreaking research and education.

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton (BID Milton) recently donated an automatic external defibrillator (AED) to Fontbonne Academy in Milton, MA.

An AED is a portable electronic device, designed for use by the layperson, which delivers an electrical shock to the heart of an individual with a dangerously irregular heartbeat, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. According to the American Heart Association, use of an AED along with immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation can more than double a victim’s chance for survival.

Fontbonne Academy’s Head of School Susan Degnan said the AED will be placed in the private girls’ high school’s foyer.  “Fontbonne Academy is grateful to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton. While we hope there is never a situation that warrants the use of an AED, this generous gift is a proactive step toward initiating life-saving treatment in the event of an emergency. Its presence in our foyer allows for improved safety for both the Fontbonne Academy school community and visitors.”

“Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton is pleased to donate a new AED to Fontbonne Academy,” said Peter Healy, president/CEO of BID-Milton. “An important component of the hospital’s mission is to support health and wellness initiatives in the community, and this donation certainly advances that cause.”
